KUALA LUMPUR: After months of anticipation, Sam Hui, dubbed Hong Kong’s ‘God of Songs’, is finally here!

Looking swell in his striking jungle-themed attire, the 55-year-old superstar arrived at Kuala Lumpur International Airport yesterday evening and was greeted by fans.

The singer is all set for the Sam Hui Live in Malaysia concerts tomorrow and Sunday at Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

The two-night shows, the first outside Hong Kong, are presented by Da Ma Cai and co-organised by Galaxy Production and Sunway Group.

The low-key Hui didn’t hold any press conference. In fact, he did not give any media interview for his series of ’comeback’ concerts in Hong Kong last year.

Hui’s guest stars for his shows here are his two sons Ryan and Scott, brother Ricky Hui, TVB actress Myolie Wu and China’s ‘12 Girls’ band.

The Canto-pop pioneer from the 1970s made a remarkable comeback by staging 38 sold-out concerts in Hong Kong’s Coliseum last summer.

It proved that the evergreen songs that he wrote and composed still maintain their mass appeal.

Malaysian fans can look forward to romantic tunes like Yan Cheong (Impression) and Sheong Sing Ching Gor (Twin Stars Love Song), fun numbers such as Pun Gan Bat Leong (Half a Kati, Eight Ounces) and Jui Gai Pak Tong (the theme song of the Aces Go Places), and since it is Chinese New Year, Hui will also be singing some of his auspicious songs like Chin, Chin, Chin (Money Money Money) and the classic Choy San Dou (Here Comes God of Prosperity).

Hui, who hadn’t been to Malaysia for more than 20 years, said his ultimate aim is to bring happiness to the people through his music.

Concert organisers have told fans to be prepared for a concert of at least four hours — a `norm’ for Hui, who ended up paying a HK2 million fine to the stadium authorities for his nightly extended usage.

While RM50 and RM110 tickets have been sold out, tickets priced from RM150 to RM380 are still available through ticket hotline: 03-2282-2820 or from the stadium ticket counter.

LRT services have been extended for the convenience of concert goers for both nights.
